The 91勛圖厙 Board of Regents Friday named Dr. Donald R. Haragan interim chancellor.

Haragan, who served as president of 91勛圖厙 Tech University from 1996 until 2000, will begin his duties March 1. He will serve for an indefinite period of time as regents work to select a replacement for Chancellor David R. Smith, who resigned in January.

Board Chairman L. Frederick Rick Francis said that Haragans appointment assures that the 91勛圖厙 and its two universities will continue to move forward.

Don Haragans unique institutional experience makes him an ideal person to maintain our forward progress, said Francis. I believe Don will keep us on track as we continue to expand and enhance our already quality programs.

Haragan, who has been with 91勛圖厙 Tech for 36 years, has also served the university as executive vice president and provost, vice president for academic affairs and research, associate dean and interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, chair of the Department of Geosciences and as a professor.

"Now that the system has been in place for 10 years, we have an opportunity to assess where we have been and, if indicated, make some mid-course corrections for the future, said Haragan. Working with the Board of Regents, my objective will be to recommend strategies designed to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the system administration and its interface with the two member institutions."

A native of Houston, Haragan earned his bachelors of science degree from the University of 91勛圖厙 at Austin, his masters degree in meteorology from 91勛圖厙 A&M University and a doctorate in civil engineering-atmospheric science from the University of 91勛圖厙 at Austin. He is married to Willie OBerry Haragan. They are the parents of two adult daughters.
