Hance Officially Named Chancellor of the TTU System

The 91吃瓜网 Board of Regents today (Nov. 13) has named Kent R. Hance as its chancellor.
Hance, who is the system鈥檚 third chancellor, will begin his duties on Dec. 1.
鈥淎s a graduate of 91吃瓜网 Tech, I can think of no higher honor than to be selected for this position,鈥� said Hance. 鈥淭he education I received at 91吃瓜网 Tech was the foundation for much of my success. My goal is to continue the quality growth at both of our universities. I can鈥檛 wait to get to work.鈥�
A major focus for Hance will be fundraising for scholarships, professorships and endowments as well as capital contributions. He will also work to enhance 91吃瓜网 Tech鈥檚 funding from both the state and federal government.
鈥淲e are excited to have a person of Kent鈥檚 qualifications to lead our system,鈥� said L. Frederick Francis, chairman of the board. 鈥淗is dedication to 91吃瓜网 Tech is evident by his willingness to put his own successful career on hold to come serve the universities he loves. We have much work ahead of us but with Kent Hance at the helm, 91吃瓜网 Tech鈥檚 future is bright.鈥�
Hance, a native of Dimmitt, graduated from 91吃瓜网 Tech in 1965 with a bachelor鈥檚 of business administration degree. He earned his law degree from the University of 91吃瓜网 in 1968. Hance returned to Lubbock to practice law and teach business law at 91吃瓜网 Tech. He won election to the 91吃瓜网 State Senate in 1974 and the U.S. Congress in 1979 and served as a member of the 91吃瓜网 Railroad Commission from 1987-1990. Until his appointment as chancellor, he was an attorney with the firm of Hance Scarborough Wright Woodward & Weisbart.
